As there have been fewer reasons to purchase a tie over the last year, (my main market was weddings, special events, office workers) and the bulk of my stockists were museum and gallery shops, all of which have been closed for months, I decided to add something new to the fold.
I have been painting original canvases using both oil and acrylic paint. Some of the paintings you may have spotted on my instagram feed. Delighted to have received a good response, and messages asking to purchase them, I have decided to add them to the collection. If you would like to be notified of when they will be released, please add your name to the mailing list or keep an eye on instagram.
I have also entered some art competitions and I am absolutely delighted to find myself as one of the ten shortlisted (out of 1200 entries) for the Annual John Byrne Award. As my entry for the John Byrne Award was quite a different style to ones I had already shown on social media, I decided to enter that competition under a name I had not used since I was 23.
I have also been awarded a VACMA (Visual Arts & Craft Makers Award) from Edinburgh Council and Creative Scotland for an art project I am currently working on connecting the landscape particularly the geology of the Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides to a canvas. This is proving to be an incredibly exciting project which I hope to tell you more about soon.
Below is one of the new oil paintings, Storm at Sea.
