I'm always on the look out for patterns in the landscape and being based in Edinburgh, I am lucky to have quick and easy access to the countryside.
Sometimes man-made marks catch my eye like the road above in the Scottish Borders.
or the shape of fields and their boundaries
or just the long winter shadows falling on an icy surface.
The marks in the landscape, some fleeting and some permanent inspire me to make my own marks. I drew the pattern for Field Trip silk scarf after looking at the field patterns around the Hill of Tarvit in Fife.
